Maria has an extensive background in the art forms of theater and visual arts. She was a student of local artist, Dan Curry and international artist, Julio Suarez a resident of Sullian for 20 years,took an interest in Maria's "primitive style". In the 1990's at an art exhibit sponsored by the SCCA, Maria was awarded "Honorable Mention". For more than ten years, she has become a photographer, filmmaker and has continued to paint with different mediums, tools and movement. She is known by her friends as the "sky painter".

15th Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Golf Tournament to be Held

The 15th annual Big Brothers Big Sisters golf tournament will once again be held at the Towanda Country Club. This year's tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2009. For the fourth year, Keystone Insurers Group, locally owned and operated by Kilmer Insurance Agency, Inc., along with Peoples State Bank and Tuscarora-Wayne Group of Companies are sponsoring this tournament. Golfers are invited to participate in a day of Great Golf for a Great Cause and support the local Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. This tournament is a major source of funding for BBBS, and benefits many youngsters in the Bradford and Sullivan Counties, along with children in Tioga Counties in PA and NY. Currently, BBBS serves about 130 children with mentoring services throughout the year. The golf tournament includes lunch and dinner for the participants. Golf begins with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Registration is available as a corporate package, golfing foursome, individual golfers and for those who cannot golf, they may contribute through ads in the tournament booklet. Prizes will be awarded for 1st. and 2nd. places in each of three flights. There will be a putting contest, a pot of gold contest on hole #4 and prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive on hole #9 and most accurate drive on hole #15. Registration material and advertising information are available at the BBBS office in the Towanda Borough Hall at 10 Park Street. 2009 Gala Celebrating 10 Years with a New Location

The Gala committee, volunteers of the American Cancer Society announce a new celebration location for their 10 year Gala event. Castlebrook, home of Tom and Adelene Mc Daniel at Lake Mokoma will host the event. This massive stone structure with Draw Bridge will be the scene for the Gala on Saturday July 25th beginning at 6 pm. Tickets are $75.00 per person. The evening begins with cocktails, hor d'oeuvres, dinner, dancing , a silent auction, a Balloon Pop Auction and Duck Derby.

Dushore: Past and Present, a Roving Historical Theater production, written, directed and acted by residents of Sullivan County and surrounding areas. Music and dance accompany a dramatic retelling of the history of Dushore on the 150th anniversary of the borough's founding.
